Why be a Christian When You Can Be an Atheist?
Christianity in this country is almost like the default religion to be in unless you’re in one of the provinces where Islam prevails. A Filipino has a 94% chance of being born in a family professing some form of Christianity, a 3% chance of being born with Islam parents and about another 3% chance of being born in a Buddhist household. What about atheists? What are the chances that a Filipino child will be born with Atheist parents? Statistics show that it’s almost none but I think it’s about time for that to change.
How? By telling the people that God does not exist and that we can all survive without religion. Probably even live a better life. The more theists who become atheists, the more chances of children being born in a family where they are not bound to any religion.
So, do I suggest that we force atheism to our children? Of course not! That wouldn’t be much different than what the theists are doing. I’d rather teach them the culture of the world and let them decide what they want to be. The idea is to give our children the chance to decide on their own and not just tell them that some god exists who is in control of our lives.
So why be a Christian? Now that I’ve realized the truth, I don’t see any reason why a person should choose Christianity or any religion at all. Why not be an atheist? I mean, why not? Atheism let’s you think and decide on your own. It doesn’t scare you with some afterlife punishment and best of all, it’s based on facts and logic. Even better than that is that all atheist beliefs are open to questioning. Assuming that I find some new proof pointing towards the existence of a supernatural god, then I’m allowed to share my thoughts and I won’t be excommunicated or whatsoever.
Want more? Atheists are mostly intelligent people. People who take time to think and question. People who ask why should I do it? People who are not afraid of “rocking the boat” so to speak. I expect Christians to know what’s written in 2 Timothy 1:7 but for the sakes of those who don’t read their bible (and there are many), here’s what it says:
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
So why be afraid of questioning your faith if God himself declares that he has not given you the spirit of fear? At least be like Job who dared to question the acts of his master. And oh, just in case you haven’t read, God even gave Isaiah the right to reason with him.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. – Isaiah 1:18 (KJV)
C’mon, I know you have some questions in your mind that you want to address to your god. I’m pretty sure you want to know the answers to some stuff that you or your clergy can’t explain. Why not start asking god questions and see if you find answers. Why not read the bible over and over again like I did? Why stay blind to all the “homicidal” acts performed by Yahweh in the old testament? Ask him!
Yeah, I challenge you. Read your bible and start asking questions.

Hello, am somewhat an agnostic. Why? Because of Catholic hypocrisy… What do I mean? Well, just go watch and read the news. They always meddle and bash-in out of nowhere. Anyway, I’m still reluctant on being an “Atheist” because people might not want me, you know, even though this country ensures your FREEDOM of beliefs [religion], they still chastise you. oh well…
hey, I’ll add you to my blogroll, thanks. n___n

Are you an atheist because it is more convenient to you?

Nope. I’m an atheist because it’s the more logical choice.

You’ll actually be surprised by the number of atheist Filipinos. We’re still a minority but we’re not that few either.
