The Foolish Descendants of Abraham
Three religions in the world claim to be descendants of Abraham. Islam being the offspring of Ishmael, Judaism being the offspring of Isaac, and Christians who according to the bible were “grafted” in. These three religions also share a lot of things in common – whether it be in doctrine or in acts that they did throughout history. They all teach that there is only one God (though majority of Christian sects extended it to a “triune” god – one god three personas).
They all believe that they will go to heaven and that all opposing beliefs will be punished for eternity. They also believe that they are the one-true religion, appointed by God and chosen. Which of them really is? I doubt any of them is.
Anyway, back to topic. I think this God of Abraham (whoever he really is, after all he’s called by many names) is a very foolish one. Imagine an all-powerful being with the power to create the entire universe in seconds, giving life to man and all other living creatures and also has the right to take it back anytime he wants (yes, this god is a HE). This god however forgot to make it clear to his people what is it that he really wants.
Ahh I know you’ll say he stated it clearly to his prophets but men misinterpreted them which resulted to the various religions we have now. Heck! Then why can’t he send another prophet today and back this prophet with unmistakeable and irrefutable signs and wonders to remind the world again?! Actually, why send a prophet? A 1-hour explanation from a voice from heaven that can be heard by the whole world will probably do.
I think this god is a foolish god! But wait! Is it really god who is the foolish one or is it the people who “imagined him into existence” that is? I mean, as an atheist, I don’t really believe in this god or any other god for that matter. So, maybe it’s not god who’s foolish. After all, how can I call a non-existent being foolish? Maybe it’s Abraham who’s foolish. Maybe it’s his descendants – whoever they really are – who’s really foolish?
Of course it’s them!
Children imagining creatures the night is one thing. But adults (not to mention scholars) of organized religions? C’mon! Please, don’t be fools anymore!

Why are you bitter against god?
- aside from killing every first born in Egypt, letting his “people” kill in his name, and the very reason why people are divided, moronic and stupid… not to mention creating his own people and then condemn some in hell, i just don’t see your point.
I mean c’mon, if there is no god… you might as well go out and slaughter people in the streets, and then be happy for the rest of the day.
How can you even consider that “he”.. oh yeah he’s a macho man(arnie look-alike really).. does not exist? he exists because the bible tells you so… you meanie!
despite all the evidence the bible tells you why are you willfully ignoring the “obvious truth.”? are you blind? the Bible stories are not myths . . . they’re parables… ok? And they’re all true! they’re all true because the bible says so.
god works in mysterious ways, and someday i know that he will reveal himself to you in his own way. i mean, even you are talking about god… that actually proves his existence. and we must not burden ourselves with “scientific truths” because “faith” is the logical answer.
I just know that someday you’ll need Jesus, and there are no atheists in foxholes. …………………..
+-+ ahahaha… just trying to make your day. i wouldn’t want to read stuff like this when i wake up. Just remember to take it easy sometimes.
an atheist gift to a fellow atheist. merry new year po. love your blog. +-+

LOL. Nice one. I’m sorry but I have to follow what the “Holy Spirit” told me. I simply wrote what “HE” told me just as like the authors of the bible wrote what “HE” told them.
Hehehe. It’d be stupid not to obey the voice in your head you know.
January 16th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
I remember just four years ago, these kinds of post would irritate me. But now, I want more of them.
February 12th, 2009 at 11:37 am
The thing with people citing their religion is the ULTIMATE religion and anyone that seemed to be different or opposed to their beliefs, will be burning for eternity is a HOGWASH.
I am not bitter against God, because I still believe that there is still someone powerful out there but I hate people and religious insitutions who loved to lambast anyone who appear different or perhaps, alien to them.
It takes a lot of understanding to appreciate people and not to judge them because they are different from you. But sad to say, religious people (daw) are unable to extend their understanding to others. To me, this is hypocrisy at its best.
Take for example the case of atheists, agnostics and homosexuals. Some religious “gurus” made irate comments about them and even condemning them to hell. I find it distasteful and perhaps, disgusting to hear and know that these so-called religious people are the ones who are first to judge others because of their differences.
This is lead to the formation of my beliefs that no one is perfect and there is no “ONE, TRUE AND ULTIMATE” religion. All of us have faults and even immoralities of different degrees. I bet people are forgetting what is said on the sermon of Mount of Olives: Let the one without sin cast the first stone.
Religions, to me, are nothing more but stranding beliefs made to box everybody and made to brainwash everybody. Religious people are teaching others to be narrow-minded in their perspectives, and somewhat,be blind to the differences of others. The world is not black and white – we are full of different shades of colors.

“I mean c’mon, if there is no god… you might as well go out and slaughter people in the streets, and then be happy for the rest of the day”
*so are you saying that this is the only reason why people is not killing each other?ever heard of jihad and Dark ages?you dont know what you are saying.
“despite all the evidence the bible tells you why are you willfully ignoring the “obvious truth.”? are you blind? the Bible stories are not myths . . . they’re parables… ok? And they’re all true! they’re all true because the bible says so.”
*i can see that you are deep;y indocrinated and you don’t want to open your eyes. have you heard about the missing parts of the bible?or maybe how does bible evolve?because if you do, you will not post here because the bible said so..
“god works in mysterious ways, and someday i know that he will reveal himself to you in his own way. i mean, even you are talking about god… that actually proves his existence. and we must not burden ourselves with “scientific truths” because “faith” is the logical answer.
*to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason, and this is defintiely wht religious people are doing
March 14th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
dude, try reading your Bible again especially the books of Daniel and Revelation, compare it with the current events and your faith shall be whole again. I dont believe that you fully comprehend the book when you said you have read it from cover to cover, really.Jesus is coming soon dude, and you know inside that you will have no peace of mind in your everyday life till you go back to Him.
March 14th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Tell me please what right do you have im telling me that I have not understood the bible. I understand it alright. What I would suggest to you in return is for you to read te bible with the mindset of both an unbeliever and a critic. That way, yiu won’t be reading with a biased perspective. Got that dude???
May 13th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Me, I don’t really believe that much in the bible.. well, yea, it tackles about everything, but i believe in an even better bible.. my own “Budhi”.. coz even without the bible, based on my own experience, I can tell if what I did was right or not.. The bible is holy, but noone’s life should be ABSOLUTLY, DEFINITELY, and WHOLLY based and dependant on it..
I think the bible is more of a reminder than a basis, you don’t need to understand it fully.. It’s like a paper note on a refrigerator cabinet of a thing we need to do but we forgot to do because we were busy with something else.. We read it then we remember..
Trust your “Budhi”, that’s what I say.. Everyone of us has this attached bible in our lives..
(Sorry for those who don’t understand what “Budhi” means.. I don’t know how to translate it in english.. Sorry again..)

(I think there is a verse in the bible that states “Blessed are those who has believed and had not seen)
You don’t always have to see to believe, sometimes the only way you can see is if you believe..
May 13th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Bcoz even thou you see the evidences(there are a lot, just look around), if you won’t believe it, then you won’t really see it..

Nice post Mike,
I have same comment with Onotheo. Yah, it disgust me really, to hear opposite opinions before when I was still a believer, as if what comes to my mind immediately is that this person definitely was sent by the devil to confuse me…wow, the Sunday lectures had me taken deeply…glad someone offered me blue and a red pill…lucky, i was compelled to take the red one
July 6th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
I just have a question, how did you arrive in the conclusion that there is no God?
July 7th, 2009 at 9:09 am
Because there’s no evidence of his existence. All so-called evidence of his existence can be explained w/o the “god ingredient” and are even more comprehensible. Sometimes it just takes a little bit more intelligence to understand this.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:32 am

Nope, that’s not intelligence, that’s what I’ll call “the easier way to understand things”… And by just depending on that “easier way to understand” doesn’t make you an intelligent person, it just tells me that you don’t really comprehend and just say “oo nga”…
July 8th, 2009 at 12:36 am
And it tells me another thing… You want to be your own GOD and you worship YOURSELF… You know what I call that? Arrogance… Sorry…
July 17th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
brainless as I am hehehe, allow me to post this comment…
Is there an evidence that you have a “brain”?
have you seen your brain?
You don’t believe in God because walang evidence? wala nga kasi EVIDENCES eh…
I hope you get my point
There’s no such thing as an ATHEIST.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
I haven’t seen my brain but evidences show that all humans have a brain – even you. As for atheists, we exist… I’m sure about that. So does Christians and Muslims, etc. Question is, does the all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere-present buddy exist?
July 20th, 2009 at 11:10 am
You haven’t seen your brain, yet you believe that you have a brain because of the evidences. I’ll use the same line of logic, I believe that God exist because of the evidences. The Creation, the Universe and everything seen and unseen are the evidences of the existence of God.He is all-powerful, omniscient, and present everywhere.since what MAY be known of God is clearly seen, because God has made it plain to us. For since the Creation of the World God’s invisible qualities-His Divine Nature and Power-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made so that we are without excuse.
have you considered the Cosmological argument on the existence of God?
July 20th, 2009 at 11:15 am
“Atheism” is just a label…in fact real atheism is “selfism”. Atheists are self-made gods.
July 20th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
God is eternally existing…
July 20th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
GOD exist.
IS there an Evidence that GOD does Not exist??
We cannot fully comprehend the existence of God mike…if we can then He ceases to be God.
July 20th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
God-Infinite
Man-finite
July 21st, 2009 at 10:41 am
God is just as finite as man. Because as soon as man dies, he stops imagining of god.
July 21st, 2009 at 10:43 am
Why do believers always default to “existence” when there is no proof. Hey, there’s no evidence that a pink unicorn does Not exist, therefore it exists… right? Please, I’m not as intelligent as the other atheists out here but your arguments are so lame even to me.
July 21st, 2009 at 10:43 am
in man’s imaginations that is…
July 21st, 2009 at 10:45 am
If that’s the case then I’d rather make myself a god rather than turn some imaginary being into one. Atheism is just a label and that’s true. And so is Christianity, Islam and other religions.
July 24th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
You said that god is just finite as man, then that means to say that there is god! hahaha i caught you. see you believe in god. even you deny him, but still you invoke of him, you make mention of him when you said that “god is just finite as man”
how will you know that man stops imagining god when he’s dead? ever been dead?
you equate atheism to islam, christianity, and other religions as labels…then that is to say that atheism believe in a “god”.
well i have to accept the fact that i made a lot of typos, but try to comprehend my not-so-smart arguments and see for your self whos more real.
July 25th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
Have never seen a more nonsense reply than this one. You seem to have missed the point. If god is just as finite as man then all that you’ve been teaching about god is wrong defeating the purpose of having a god at all.
July 26th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
nonesense? well it may sound nonsense to you, but you haven’t answered my nonsense arguments pa.
if god is just as finite as man-therfore he exist. get my point? U said he is finite- it defeats ur claim that “God does not exist”. how can you say that he does not exist when you said he is finite? you seem to have missed my point…
isa pa, u did not answer my questions…why?
I believe that God is infinite. ok?
July 26th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
“because as soon as man dies, he stops imagining of god” you said.
my question is, how can you be certain about that?
ever been dead?
August 6th, 2009 at 2:06 am
to brainless, do you even know what being dead means?
August 7th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
being dead? Yes…being dead is being separated from the source of Life, and that is God. that is death in a spiritual sense.
if you mean physiological death, then its when all your body parts stop functioning.
September 22nd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Totally brainless brainless… Tired of listening to people who just can’t understand the fact that not all people can think like you.
There is no difference between you and the religious fanatic who blow themselves up in the name of religion.
You must appreciate difference man!
October 1st, 2009 at 1:02 pm
what do you mean “difference”?
hahaha you invoke of fanaticism. what fanaticism do u subscribe to? im no fanatic! you accuse me of something w/o any evidence.its not loving reason Basti!
November 19th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
To brainless: who is your god? i want a clear answer. Give me a name, please. Thank you.

“there is no evidence of God’s existence”
likewise
“there is no evidence that he does not exist”
======
“belief in a being that may or may not exist is irrational”
true but..
“it is irrational to deny that reality stems from consciousness and that all Reality could stem from Consciousness”
========
we could go on and on about atheism vs. religion, i was once an agnostic myself before i made the choice (through extensive personal study) to convert to Catholicism.. to quote the bible would give little benefit as I am aware that not all people consider it universal truth.. on the other hand, to say that religion is the opium of the masses is to suggest that 99% of the world is suffering from some sort of mass delusion and atheists are the lucky and enlightened 1%.. my point is.. my point is, it’s better to promote your belief by stating its benefits instead of continually ranting against god — whom to you doesn’t exist — why do you hate so much something that (to you) doesn’t exist in the first place?
December 10th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
@kumag,
my GOD? Oh my God, I really don’t know how to answer that one…do you really mean “name”? a personal name?
he got loads of name….
I believe in God according to the Bible.
@ayasibgurl
ummm… are you an RC fundie??
December 14th, 2009 at 11:06 am
@brainless, are you a christian fundie? And why the god according to the bible and not the god according to some other holy book?
December 18th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
christian, but not a fundie.
because the bible is a superior book. for years i was a skeptic of the bible, not because I studied it and concluded that it was unreliable, but because I’ve heard and read enough skepticism about ha book. it poisoned my view on the book.
But there was a time that I set all my presuppositions and personal biases aside, and read the book in its real context. To make the story short, i was reconverted back to Christianity, and firmly believed in the BIBLE.
to your question,”why the Bible and not the other book?”
Is there any book in history that topped the best bookseller than he BIBLE?
Of all the ancient writings, most scholars agree that the Old Testament of the Bible is the oldest of religious books. It was first written at 1000 BC through 500 BC and the words were given by God to its writers. In comparison, most others are relatively young.
* Koran or al-Qur’an (holy book of Islam) was written in 650 AD.
* Veda (sacred scriptures of Hinduism) written 500 – 1000 BC.
* Tao-te-ching (Taoism book of philosophy) was mainly written by Lao-Tse, who is believed by many to be the founder of Taoism.
* Bahagavad Gita (Indian Hindu epic poem) between 200 BC – 200 AD.Aside from being the oldest among other religious books, the Bible is:
1.unique in it’s continuity.–It was written over a 1,500 year time-span by over 40 authors from every walk of life, including kings, peasants, philosophers, fishermen, shepherds, soldiers, poets, statesmen, scholars, etc.! Nevertheless, from beginning to end, its authors spoke on hundreds of controversial subjects with harmony & continuity, outlining one unfolding story: God’s Love for man!
2.The Bible has been read by more people than any other book ! It has out-sold every book that has ever been written and it still sells more copies every year than any other in the World! But of course in the bestsellers lists they don’t dare acknowledge that, that in spite of all Man’s writings, foolishness, fiction and ridiculous interpretations of history and reality, the Bible still outsells them all ! Another unique and related fact is that the Bible was the first major book ever to be printed, on Gutenberg’s press.
3.The Bible has been translated and published in more languages than any other book in existance ! –As far back as 1966 the whole Bible had appeared in 240 languages and dialects, and one or more of its books appeared in 739 additional ones!
4.The Bible, compared with all other ancient writings, has more manuscript evidence than any ten pieces of classical literature combined ! Although originally written on perishable materials, having to be recopied by hand for thousands of years before the invention of the printing press, it’s style, correctness and accuracy has been preserved as no other book in all History! The Jews had special classes of scholars within their culture whose sole duty was to preserve and transmit the books of the Bible with perfect accuracy, counting the very consonants, vowels, syllables and words per manuscript as a means of double-checking. Literally thousands of ancient manuscripts in the original languages have been unearthed which prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the Scriptures have come down through the ages to us just as they were originally written!
5.The Bible has withstood vicious attacks by it’s enemies as no other book . Many have tried to burn it, destroy it and outlaw it, from the days of the Roman emperors to some present-day anti-Christ countries. Its very existence today and the fact that its teachings and Truths have been preserved despite the countless campaigns and tirades against it is in itself miraculous!
6.Discovery after discovery by modern archaeologists have confirmed and proven the Bible’s absolute accuracy and have proven it to be a source of History. Archaeologists following Old Testament references have rediscovered whole nations and resurrected entire peoples that the sceptics and critics once said were non-existent or imaginary. In fact, it can be stated categorically that not one archaeological discovery has ever contradicted or cast doubt on a Biblical reference–all have confirmed its accuracy!
7.The Bible is the only volume ever produced which contains a large amount of prophecies accurately predicting the future of individual nations, peoples, cities, and the coming of One Who was to be the Messiah ! Although the ancient world had many different devices for determining the future, nowhere in all of Greek or Latin literature can there be found any real specific prophecy of a great Historic event to come in the distant future. But the Bible is full of countless, detailed, specific prophecies, all of which have been miraculously fulfilled and come true–except, of course, the final Endtime prophecies which are either to be fulfilled in the near future or are coming to pass right now!
8.What an amazing and remarkable book ! Yet so many people today, who consider themselves so smart and so knowledgeable, ignore the Bible completely ! Time and time again we talk to people who’ve been through years of college, university, have read hundreds and hundreds of books–huge tomes, volumes of textbooks, religious books, philosophical books and all kinds of books–yet have never even cracked open the Bible, the most fascinating Book in the World!–In which you can find almost anything: Drama, love, hate, peace, war, romance, poetry, prophecy, history, mystery, etc., etc.!
9.Just think about it : words of wisdom from thousands of years ago, from the days before Moses ! It’s such an important Book and one of the oldest Books in the World, yet a lot of “educated” people don’t even bother to read it ! They waste time on all of their complicated and confused theories while neglecting the very Words of Life, the Bible, which is so simple, direct and to the point!
10.If you were going on a long journey and didn’t already know the way, you would bring along a map wouldn’t you ? –Well, you are on a long journey, and the One Who does know the way has instructed some of His men to draw a detailed map so you won’t get lost and so you can learn the right way to operate down here and ultimately make it safely to your final destination! But to say you don’t have time to read God’s Map, the Bible, is like a driver going on a long journey and saying, “Well, I’m in such a hurry to get there I don’t have time to look at the map!”–But if you’ll just take the Bible and simply read it, believe it and follow it, you will be on the right path and wind up at the right place!
11.And that is actually the greatest proof that the Bible really is the miraculous, supernatural Word of God Himself–it works ! So why not try it!–It’s the greatest, most enduring, wisest, most truthful Book in the whole World that you can really trust ! I’m sure that you will find it an absolutely inexhaustible source of wisdom and knowledge, out of which you will constantly find “treasures new and old”!–Beautiful! (Mt.13:52)
12.Of course the most wonderful thing about the Bible is that, through it’s words, we can get to know it’s Author ! –For the Bible is God’s great Love Letter to us ! Its Life-giving Words make it the greatest Book in the World, with the only Author in the World that can guarantee life, love and happiness; Heaven forever through simply reading and believing in its main Character, the One Who loved us so much that He gave His Own Life to save us–Jesus Christ, the Son of God!

Wow! That’s a long copy-paste work over there.
Just wondering, have you ever read it from cover to cover as a critic and not as a believer?
December 21st, 2009 at 12:43 pm
not all of them were copy-pasted.
I edited some of them (not well edited though).
“Just wondering, have you ever read it from cover to cover as a critic and not as a believer?”
Yup, I did, but not from cover to cover. I started reading from the Book of Revelation, the last book. wala akong naintindihan.haha
So, I decided to start from the start-The book of Genesis.the book of Genesis laid down the foundation of everything:CREATION.
As a former critic of the Bible,
I started questioning the BIBLE’s credibility, like its authenticity, authorship, historicity, etc.

Do you think people will listen if they heard a “Godly” voice from the heavens? Will you believe if you hear for yourself literally the voice of God from Heaven? Or are you just going to dismiss it as “Mike: I must be going crazy”??
You are telling God that He is foolish because He did not do this and that. Is He? Or maybe just as you yourself said maybe it is the people who are foolish!
And I agree with you there. God revealed Himself to all of us and we are so foolish and deny His existence.
So I ask you, if God stands before you, shows you all the proof that you want to see for yourself, are you going to renounce everything and start a new blog “The Filipino Ex-Atheist”?
Don’t be a hypocrite, you know your heart, your whole being will still not believe that God exists even if all your proof requirements are satisfied. Why? You have all the answers in the world. You can easily tell yourself “Mike: Nice technology”.
We are all foolish for not believing in the One True God when He already revealed Himself to us – generally and personally. We make a lot of excuses and explanations just to dismiss His proofs and revelations to each one of us.
December 21st, 2009 at 11:35 pm
If I hear it myself then I’d definitely crap my pants. And with hearing I meant audible and not just some voice in the head. Even better, if all people hear it (I’m sure the almighty spaghetti monster can do that) then I bet it is worth of merit.
God is foolish because the people who created him are foolish. What’d you expect?
Oh yes I definitely will! I ain’t dumb…
You seem to be all-knowing (or perhaps just another false prophet) to tell me that my whole being will still not believe. God is that you?
Oh please, not the “one true god” again… who is this god and how sure are you that he is the one true god???
December 21st, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Hahaha… very well, edited some of them…
And while you were reading it, what made you believe that everything in it is true? That it is indeed from god?
December 22nd, 2009 at 9:20 am
you know mike, it really takes faith to know that the Bible is God’s Word.
Well, the book of genesis simply filled this hiatus in my shell, a portion of my brain that kept on asking me,”Who are you?, who created you?, who created everything around you?”
December 23rd, 2009 at 11:15 am
Faith! Yes, it also takes faith to believe in the flying spaghetti monster and fairies. Faith is also a really good way in meeting imaginary friends.
December 24th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
nope.faith is more than what you think. belief in the flying spaghetti monster and fairies are simply imaginary beliefs…not FAITH.
faith includes reason: I KNOW whom I have believed and I am CONVINCED that He is able to guard what I have ENTRUSTED to Him until that day. These are the words of the Apostle Paul.
Belief is considered propositional in that it is an assertion, claim or expectation about reality that is presumed to be either true or false.
while Faith is best defined in Hebrews 11:1 (probably the most concise definition of faith found in the Bible). It is considered the classical definition of faith. Faith is both the
1.substance of things hoped for and
2.the evidence that things exist that are not yet perceived with the senses.
December 25th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
oh how dare you tell me that the flying spaghetti monster is just imaginary. it is real and i have faith that it will save from eternal damnation! would that qualify for the definition of faith in hebrews? i hope that it will save me. and i believe that it will save me. my faith is evidence enough you see…
c’mon dude, faith is nothing more than “supernatural belief”. if i hope for my mom to buy me chocolates – is that faith? what if i hope for the flying spaghetti monster to buy me chocolates – is that faith? ok, now let’s change it a bit… what if i hope for jesus christ to buy my chocolates – is that faith?
December 26th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
just
re-read my earlier comment.
