Bill Maher and Religulous
Just wanted to share with you a recent film that I watched. It’s called Religulous by Bill Maher. Bill’s not an atheist but his views on religion is something that I agree with. Here’s an excerpt from Wikipedia as to what he believes in:
“I’m not an atheist. There’s a really big difference between an atheist and someone who just doesn’t believe in religion. Religion to me is a bureaucracy between man and God that I don’t need. But I’m not an atheist, no. I believe there’s some force. If you want to call it God… I don’t believe God is a single parent who writes books”. – Source: Wikipedia
And here’s a preview of the movie (I think you should buy it)
It’s a pretty awesome movie that’s got me laughing all way through.

I’ve seen the whole movie. My favorite part is when Bill narrated the similarities of Jesus and Horus. Both were born of a virgin on Dec 25th, visited by 3 kings, baptized by a “Baptist” who was beheaded, preached at the age of 30, had 12 diciples, crucified and buried, then resurrected, etc. That’s too much to be coincidences… Horus was a God 3000 plus years before the formation of Christianity. Piracy? Hehehe

Jim,
I don’t believe on the traditional date of Christ’s birth. And definitely no kings ever visited him.
Some say Krishna and Horus has some similarities with Christ….
Maybe with the traditional Christ, but not with the Historical Christ of the Bible, who is eternally existing-existing even before the foundation of the World…

And what historical evidence do you have that proves that the historical Christ of the Bible is eternally existing?

I find it incredible that the supposedly Son of God, the most important person on Earth have no proof of existence. Stories about him were written after his death by people who don’t even know him personally. How reliable can they be? It will depend on the intellect of the reader.

mike and jim,
there are loads of historical proofs about the historicity of Christ. try to read Lee Strobel’s “A Case for Christ”. and correction, there are prophecies about Christ concerning His birth, return, judgment, etc. in the Old testament, a few hundred years before the birth of the Historical Christ.

if he’s that important, why is christ is not included in history books or documentary movies about ancient civilizations including rome.

No. There are some History books that includes the Life Of Christ. You invoke of Rome-the center of Roman Catholicism. Well Rome or the Roman Civilization was deeply attributed to Romulus. But in the early 3rd century A.D., Rome became the seat of Christianity, not until Paganism came in.

Jim said: “Stories about him were written after his death by people who don’t even know him personally.”
I believe the strictest of scientific studies and processes has proven time and again that most of the New Testament books especially the Gospel Books plus Acts of the Apostles were written by people who KNEW Jesus PERSONALLY.
How can these people who wrote about Jesus do not know Him personally if they were His 12 disciples/apostles? When Jesus Himself chose them?

I beg to disagree my dear Juan. Here’s a short excerpt from Wikipedia:
You seem to be so naive about your beliefs my friend. Please try to view it as a critic and not as a believer to avoid bias.

I did, now tell me what’s wrong….
would you?
Are you having problem with the synoptic gospels Mike? I beseech you to read the Bible Mike, not as a critic, but an honest truth seeker man who really want to now the ultimate answers for life’s ultimate questions.Well, as a critic, you still read the Bible with your personal-critical biases.

If the bible is such an all-powerful text then critical biases would be overcome. If my critical thinking can overthrow the so-called biblical truths then it’s not worth reading.
And yes, to learn one must unlearn what has been learned. And so I unlearned everything I learned from religion and church and started all over again – and guess what… I did learn.

from what religion??

christianity.
January 8th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
from what denomination in Christianity??
January 10th, 2010 at 3:13 am
Lol. Denomination, haha. Just another proof that Christianity has gone haywire.
But does denomination really matter? Don’t you all have the same God and the same Savior?
January 20th, 2010 at 2:11 pm
yes, you have to specify from what denomination. Denomination really matters. we have the same God, but different ways of explaining who this God is.
January 21st, 2010 at 7:00 am
LOL. Just plain LOL to that brainless. Now, how sure are you that your denomination interprets this god of yours correctly? One god, many explanations. Hahahaha.
January 22nd, 2010 at 6:25 pm
Different ways…meaning different means.but it does not necessarily mean a different GOD. Very simple distinction MIKE.Get it??
Here’s a passage from the Bible that will explain some of the concepts that I am driving out.
Eph.4:3-6
Make every effort to KEEP THE UNITY of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is ONE BODY and ONE SPIRIT—just as you were called to ONE HOPE when you were called— ONE Lord, one faith, one baptism; ONE God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
This passage speaks about the UNITY within the WHOLE CHRISTIAN CHURCH(That’s why they were told t(denominations) have different gifts…denominations vary when it comes to means, but soon they will come(future tense) to the UNITY of FAITH.
here’s the continuation…
“But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it[a] says:
“When he ascended on high,
he led captives in his train
and gave gifts to men.”
………………………..
you said:
how sure are you that your denomination interprets this god of yours correctly?
my answer:
not really “accurately” dude…we leave most of them to GOD. for our minds are limited, bound to err and blunders.
January 22nd, 2010 at 11:32 pm
your minds are limited but didn’t your own bible say that you believers have the mind of christ? that gives you the power to interpret the so-called word of good accurately. that doesn’t seem to be the case though. and please, enough of this “we’re human, we’re limited” argument of yours. are you not born-again? are you not born again with the spirit of god? if so, you’re no longer beings of this world, am i right? you’re now heavenly beings, capable of interpreting perfectly what the word of god is, but apparently you fail to do so.
your own declarations and claims my dear friend is what continues to make me (and perhaps other atheists) think that you’re indeed delusional.
February 21st, 2010 at 3:02 pm
i am born again…but not perfect.we don’t, we just imitate Christ and in that sense we have the mind of Christ.
we don’t interpret the word of god accurately, we can’t, not unless the Holy Spirit will guide us. Also with good hermeneutical skills and good commentaries. I am still a being of this world, but I’m not of the world.
